"Flexibility" Morning Word Warmup Writing
It's vitally important that I remain flexible in my warmup writing... that's why this post is being released at minutes until midnight!
Say the word "Flexibility" to most people and they quickly think of Yogis — How far they can do the splits and can they reach their crotches down to the floor?!
When freelancers, entrepreneurs, and self-employed pros hear the word "Flexibility" they frequently think of the ability to work with a variety of clients, software platforms, and project challenges.
But some folks also think (more pessimistically) of merely accommodating for client needs that are constantly being rescheduled.
On the other hand, when I see the word "Flexibility", I picture accomplishing a work/life routine that allows for self-care, scheduled productivity, and urgent concerns.
Here's what comes to my mind when I think about the word "Flexibility" as it applies to achieving an ideal work lifestyle, especially if you really want to align your passions to your career:
More than anything, I must attend to the health and maintenance of my mind, body, and emotions ~ without room in my schedule for proper self-care, everything else is prone to breakdown
Real work will always expand to fill the time allotted for it (Parkinson's Law), so if I schedule my client work in blocks of time throughout my week, I'm WAY more likely to follow through without stressing over sensitive deadlines
Let's not forget to build padding into our daily schedules ~ Why? Because shit happens and we shouldn't be caught off guard when it hits the fan and demands our attention
At the end of the day, “Rigidity” (opposite of Flexibility) is a nice-to-have privilege (…if it works long-term), but is most often a curse. So without "Flexibility" in our schedules, maintaining an ideal work/lifestyle hangs in jeopardy.
Here's how every freelancer, entrepreneur, and self-employed pro can apply this to your life:
Add 30-90 minutes to your calendar tomorrow and label it as "Flex Time"... see what happens.
